As the Kgosi of the Bakwena Ba Mogopa, it gives me great pride to welcome you to our official digital home.
The Bakwena Ba Mogopa are a people defined by the spirit of the Kwena (the Crocodile)—resilient, patient, and deeply connected to our waters and our land. Our history is one of great trials, but more importantly, it is one of legendary triumphs. From the struggle for our ancestral soil to our current standing as a key player in South Africa’s mineral and agricultural sectors, we have always moved forward with dignity.
This website serves as a digital Kgotla—a place of information, transparency, and connection. It has been designed to serve three main purposes:
To Inform our People: Every member of the Bakwena nation, whether in Bethanie, Hebron, or the diaspora, deserves to know how their heritage is being managed and what opportunities are available to them.
To Invite our Partners: We are open for business. Through our pillars of Mining, Agriculture, Logistics, and Tourism, we invite investors who respect our land and share our vision for sustainable growth.
To Honor our Heritage: We share our story with the world, ensuring that the legacy of those who fought for this land is never forgotten.
We are no longer just a “tribe” of the past; we are a Traditional Nation of the future. I invite you to explore these pages, engage with our initiatives, and join us as we cultivate our land and empower our youth.
Let us build together.
